Independent web design · Massachusetts

Websites that reflect the people and businesses they were built for.

I've been building websites since the 1990s. The technology has changed quite a bit. The goal hasn't: make something that looks good, works well, and actually feels like it belongs to whoever it's for.

Simple always outlives trends.

Selected work

Five websites. None of them look alike. That's the point.

Good web design shouldn't make every client look like they hired the same designer.

01 · Small business

Boutique Technology Services

A technology company that doesn't look or sound like one.

Technology can already be intimidating. The website shouldn't be. The site keeps the focus on practical help, clear choices and a business built around trust.

Dead End Men

Built for the band, not a template.

An all-original Massachusetts rock band with its own sound and personality. The site gives Dead End Men a home for shows, music, photos and everything around the band.

03 · Personal music site

BrianH Music

A music site with a memory.

A current music site sitting on top of years of gigs, setlists, recordings and assorted musical nonsense.

Cheese Merge

Twenty years of history. Very little dignity.

Twenty years of shows, setlists, photos, flyers, recordings and questionable commentary, rebuilt without losing what made the old site fun.

Not every website needs to be torn apart and rebuilt.

A straightforward author site built around books, characters and the person writing them, without burying readers under unnecessary machinery.

Why Spinners

Designing websites since Amazon.com was an online bookstore.

I learned HTML in the 1990s, when browsers were primitive, connections were slow and visitor counters somehow seemed like a good idea.

A lot has changed. What hasn't is my preference for websites that are easy to understand, easy to use and actually reflect the people behind them.

Simple always outlives trends.

About Spinners

It's just me. That's kind of the point.

Spinners is me. You tell me what you're trying to build, and I'm the person who designs it. No handoff, no layers of people, and no trying to make your website look like everybody else's.
